Hurricane Deductible Calculator & Homeowner Checklist

Turn your policy’s hurricane deductible percentage into a dollar amount, then prepare your home inventory and keep storm resources close.

Use your browser’s Print menu to print or save this resource as a PDF. Keep completed worksheets privately. Do not put policy numbers, Medicare numbers, medical records or Social Security numbers in our general quote form.

Put a hurricane percentage deductible into dollars

For a percentage deductible, multiply the dwelling coverage limit specified by your policy by the deductible percentage. Use the policy’s insured amount, not your home’s sale price.

Illustration: $400,000 dwelling limit × 2% = $8,000. This is deductible arithmetic, not a claim payment estimate.

Your policy controls the amount and when it applies. Prior hurricane losses, policy changes and other terms can affect the remaining deductible. This worksheet does not calculate those adjustments or establish coverage.

Build a home inventory you can find later

Work one room at a time. Photograph belongings, note identifying details and keep receipts or appraisals with your records. Store a backup where you can access it if your home or phone is damaged.

Discuss valuable items and policy sublimits with your agent. An inventory documents belongings; it does not add coverage or guarantee a claim payment.

Keep storm and claims resources within reach

For immediate danger, call 911 and follow local emergency instructions. For a claim, use the reporting contact on your policy or your insurer’s official site. Document damage when safe and retain relevant receipts and communications.
